An erect branched under shrub with a short woody stem and numerous prostrate branches found throughout India as forest undergrowth in dry forests up to 900m elevation. Tender aerial parts of the plant are used in Ayurveda for various formulations.

Application

Shalparni is a component of Dashmula group. Like other ingredients of Dashmula, it has a marked analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also used as an important constituent in many "Rasayana" formulations. Being a member of Dashmula group, it exhibits considerable analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Chemical composition

Roots contain resin, alkaloids and an essential oil in minute quantities.
