An extensive climber with large ovate-cordate leaves found growing wild in north-eastern Himalaya and in south India. Bark and root of the plant are used medicinally.

Application

Roots of Elephant Creeper have been extensively used to control inflammation of varied nature. Experimental studies justify such usage by establishing its potent anti inflammatory activity.

Chemical composition

The plant contains tannins and resin. The seeds are reported to contain alkaloids, Quercetin, chanoclavine, ergine, ergonovine and isoergine.

Effect on dosha

Alleviates vitiation of vata and kapha.
